Weather by Region
South Africa's size means several climates at once; we plan packing and pacing around the region, not just the season.
Planning
The Western Cape (Cape Town, Winelands, Garden Route) has a Mediterranean climate: warm, dry summers (November-March) and mild, wet winters (June-August).
The interior and safari regions (Kruger, Johannesburg) follow a summer-rainfall pattern, with hot, wet summers and dry, cooler winters, when afternoon temperatures can still be warm even as nights turn cold on game drives.
KwaZulu-Natal and Durban's coastline are subtropical, warm and humid for most of the year with a swimmable ocean even in winter.
