Best Time to Travel

South Africa is a year-round destination; the right season depends on what you want to prioritise.

Planning

For safari, May to September (the dry winter) offers the best game viewing, as sparser vegetation and limited water sources concentrate wildlife and make sightings easier.

For the Cape and Winelands, November to March brings warm, dry summer days, ideal for beaches, hiking, and outdoor dining, while April-May and September-October offer a quieter shoulder season.

For whale watching along the Whale Coast, June to November is prime season, peaking around September and October.
